Location: Lechlade, Gloucestershire
Project: Replacement Orangery
Property: Beautiful Cotswold Stone Detached Property
Material: Sapele hardwood with factory paint finish, aluminium roof structure

The Brief

Our clients in Lechlade approached us with a clear goal: to transform their tired, outdated orangery into something refined, functional, and timeless. They wanted to retain the footprint of the original structure, but reimagine it entirely — with cleaner lines, better light, and a design that suited their lifestyle and property.

A symmetrical, two-story stone house with a central sunroom and a triangular roofline. The house has a lush green lawn in the foreground and a patio set with a table and chairs in the sunroom area. The windows are white-framed and regularly spaced, and the sky is overcast, casting a soft, even light over the scene. There's a small building on the left and a vine-covered wall on the right

Our Approach

We began, as always, with a thorough on-site consultation, followed by a bespoke design proposal complete with CAD renderings to help the clients visualise the transformation. Working with the existing base work, we carefully removed the stone dwarf walls and replaced the original mono-pitch roof with a flat-roof orangery design, finished with a sleek aluminium lantern and two electric roof vents for optimal ventilation and light.

The full structure — including windows, door set, and detailed cornicing — was crafted in Sapele hardwood and finished in a durable factory-applied paint system for long-term performance and beauty. Traditional black ironmongery added subtle contrast and a nod to heritage styling, keeping the aesthetic both elegant and understated.

A front-on view of a stone house with a new, large, bright conservatory addition in the center. The new conservatory has tall, white-framed French doors and a glass roof. The lawn in front is bordered by purple and green flowering plants. Two large, trimmed bushes flank the conservatory. The house is a warm, golden-brown stone, and the sky is blue with some light clouds.

Full Project Management

From concept to completion, we managed every stage of the process. This included technical surveying, joinery production, structural adaptation, installation, and finishing — all handled in-house by our dedicated team. The result: a streamlined experience for the client, with the confidence of knowing every detail was taken care of.

The Result

The finished orangery is a dramatic improvement on the original — a modern yet classically inspired space that enhances the overall property while respecting its architectural roots. Clean rooflines, generous glazing, and carefully considered materials have created a bright, welcoming room that the clients can now use all year round.

By updating the structure without expanding the footprint, we were able to maximise both efficiency and visual impact — offering a perfect example of how thoughtful design and quality craftsmanship can breathe new life into an existing space.

A brightly lit sunroom with a large glass ceiling and French doors that open to a green backyard with a manicured lawn and garden. The room is furnished with two gray armchairs and a gray sofa with patterned throw pillows. In the center, a dark wood coffee table holds a coffee pot, a mug, and a laptop. A tall, modern arc lamp stands on the right, and two similar floor lamps are visible on the left. The walls are a neutral cream colour.
