The Brief

Set high on the hills above Stroud, this detached property enjoys truly breathtaking views across the Cotswold landscape. The client’s brief was simple: make the most of those views, while updating an existing, outdated structure into something light-filled, elegant, and timeless.

Our Approach

With the original base work still structurally sound, we worked with what was already there — carefully increasing the internal floor level to match the adjoining living space. This not only improved the natural flow between rooms but ensured uninterrupted sightlines out toward the surrounding countryside.

The design transitioned from the original format to a more contemporary flat-roof orangery with a central aluminium lantern, allowing light to flood into the space from above while offering skyward views throughout the day.

The structure was built using high-performance timber frames, colour-coded in a soft cream to blend harmoniously with the property’s existing palette. Decorative detailing — including a classic cornice, fluted pilasters, and precision-moulded trims — elevated the overall aesthetic, lending a sense of grandeur without overpowering the natural setting.

Full Project Management

As always, the project was handled entirely by our in-house team. From initial consultation and bespoke CAD-rendered proposals through to final detailing and aftercare, every stage was managed with complete transparency and professionalism. Our qualified surveyors, joiners, installers, and project leads ensured a smooth and efficient process from start to finish.

The Result

The finished orangery will be a true celebration of its setting — calm, elegant, and built to embrace the view at every opportunity. Thanks to thoughtful design and expert detailing, the new space will offer seamless continuity with the main house while standing confidently as its own architectural statement.

By raising the internal floor level and carefully reconfiguring the structure, we will be delivering a space that feels part of the landscape, not just attached to it — offering our clients year-round enjoyment of the changing skies and rolling hills beyond.
